RECEPTION WELCOME, Miss Tallant and Miss Simmons

Welcome to The Reception team.

This year the class teachers are Miss Tallant and Miss Simmons. Our teaching assistants this year are Mrs Ward, Ms Pickering and Miss Audsley. We are a very busy class and we are all eager to learn new things.

This half term our topic is People Who Help Us. During this topic the children will be learning about the Emergence Services and also look at all professions and people around us who help us. We have our very own fire station and doctors surgery role play within our classroom and have been building our own large scale fire engines and police cars outside. Watch this space for updates and photos about our new topic.

On Friday 31st March we held a Faith Day in school. The children in Reception spent the day learning about Hinduism and Christianity. Whilst learning about Hinduism the children focused on the Diwali festival which is a festival of light. The children spent ht morning making diva lights, lanterns, rangoli patterns and designing mendhi patterns. In the afternoon the children learnt about Christianity, which they learnt about the purpose of a church, what Christians believe and about the role of priests. Throughout the afternoon the children made stain glass windows, collage crosses, Easter story hand prints and designing Easter eggs. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed today.

Faith Day

Last half term the children have had a special visit from Mrs Lilly who came to teach the children about holidays and how they have changed over the years too present day. The children dressed up learnt old seaside songs and even enjoyed a nice ice cream.

During the Autumn term the children have also been learning about different celebrations, such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali and Remembrance. Take a look at the slide show below to see what the children have been up to.

During the first half term the children were given the task to build a class scarecrow to be on display during the Harvest Festival. The children voted that we would make a minion. All of the children participated in making the scarecrow whether it was that they stuck the straw on the cardboard box, collaged the minions arms or cutting the material to make the minion trousers. Take a look below to see how our class scarecrow developed over time.
